DAVAO CITY Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is in Taiwan since Saturday, meeting top officials and hundreds of overseas Filipino workers.
The visit was part of Duterte’s ‘familiarization’ with Taiwan’s political, economic, infrastrucure and social development.
Taiwan is a home to over 100,000 Filipinos employed as domestic workers, factory employees, construction workers, among others.
Duterte was personally accompanied by the Taiwan Representative to the Philippines Dr. Gary Song-Huann Lin on the said trip.
On Sunday, Duterte visited the Taipei Expo Park, where hundreds of OFWs welcomed him. The presidential aspirant took it as an opportunity to lay down his development agenda for the Philippines.
Duterte’s Taiwan schedule included a meeting with officials of the National Police Agency and the Ministry of Justice to discuss mutual judicial assistance and bilateral cooperation in combating crime. | Ben Tesiorna
